Renew A U.S. Passport Is Not A Difficult Process

International travel can be exciting and rewarding, but in order to travel outside of the United States, you’ll be required to have a passport. This document must be up to date and in good condition. Your passport has a 15 year period before it needs to be renewed. To renew a passport you can do this through the mail, but it must meet certain criteria.
You can renew a passport through the mail, directed to the National Passport Processing Center at P. O. Box 13349, Philadelphia, PA, 19101-3349, as long as you meet certain stipulations. This process isn’t complicated assuming your passport meets all the necessary requirements. Renewing by the postal service is relatively easy and quick.
If you do not have a current passport or it has expired beyond the 15 year period, you’ll need to apply for a new one. This is simple and can be done at the post office as long as you have proof of your identity and your birth certificate. This ID must be a driver’s license or a say issued identification card.
As long as you have a valid current passport that is not damaged you can apply to renew it by mail. If your passport is damaged, then it needs to be replaced and this will require applying for a replacement. In order to replace your damaged passport, you will need to fill out Form DS-11, provide proof of residency, and provide the damaged passport and proof of identity.
In order to apply for a replacement on a damaged passport you’ll also need to supply two passport ID pics. These photos can be obtained at numerous locations, including pic processing centers. Passport pics must be two inch x two inch photos that are taken with a required background.
In order to renew your passport by mail, you will need to have been over 16 at the time you received your current passport. You’ll also have to have received your passport within the last 15 years. If either of these factors does not exist in your situation, you will need to apply for a new passport. When applying for a new passport you can do this process over the World wide web via the US. You must also have the same name as what appears on your passport in order to renew passport. There are many different instances where your name may have changed, such as a change in marital status. If your name has changed, you will then need to apply for a passport name change. This can be done through the mail and will require one of two different forms depending on how long you have had your passport.

These stipulations include current and accurate information, your name included. Your passport must also be in good condition or you cannot renew it, you will have to replace it in person instead. If you are not, you can renew it through the consulate or embassy in the country you’re residing in.
